Project management can be defined as a discipline of certain activities to manage a temporary endeavour (project) to achieve specific goals.

These certain activities are initiating, planning, executing, controlling and meet the deliverables.

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. A project is temporary in a specified timeframe, and therefore defined scope and resources.

The primary challenge is to meet all of the project goals within the given constraints. This information is usually described in a project plan. This project plan contains a scope, a time line, quality and budget. The challenge for the project team members and project leader is to optimize the allocation of necessary inputs and integrate them to meet pre-defined objectives.

Project-based work has many advantages for an organization such as deploying specialized staff and temporary hiring of personnel. Both the functional and operational management of employees are experienced as disadvantageous as is the continuous adaptation to the environment.
